Image taken by Philadelphia Evening Bulletin photographer Charles T. Higgins. Notes on the negative's envelope read: "Aerials, Flooding Boathouse Row and Public Boathouse and River Drives, June 23, 1972, Time: 10:40"
This June 23, 1972, image shows an aerial view of flooding of the Schuylkill River, the day after the heaviest of the rainfall in Philadelphia, from Hurricane Agnes. This photograph shows the Schuylkill Expressway and the City Avenue and railroad bridges, where they cross the Schuylkill River, with Laurel Hill Cemetery on the east bank. While nowhere near the upstate devastation from Agnes in the Wilkes-Barre area, the flooding of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia still had a major impact in the city.
