This 1953 image shows an aerial view of the Schuylkill River, snaking vertically through the center of the photograph, with the Philadelphia Zoo on the right (west) bank and the Philadelphia Museum of Art (upper left) on the east bank. The built-up area at the upper left corner is Center City, with City Hall at the end of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The Callowhill Street Bridge (replaced by the Spring Garden Street Bridge) crosses the river at the Art Museum, and the Fairmount Dam is the thin white line across the river, below the bridge. The Girard Street Bridge and the Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge are seen crossing the river at the bottom.
