John Cassin (1813-1869) was an outstanding American ornithologist, head of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia's bird department and associated with the J.T. Bowen lithographic establishment. These are his taxonomic names.

The left-hand page (Pl. 6) is a Cassin's Auklet (Mergulus Cassinii) and the right-hand page (Pl. 4) is a White-throated Screech Owl (Syrnium Albogularis).
