Notes: "Another view of the Academy of Music shows Horticultural Hall, left, which was the meeting place of the Association of Philadelphians for the Advancement of Horticultural Interests. This group of 'gentlemen gardeners' was organized in 1827 to protect and advance the cause of the gardening and fruit-growing industries in Pennsylvania. The building shown here was opened in 1865."--OPEP, p. 179.
Notes: The Academy with additional roof, supported by posts, over sidewalk at the main entrance. Horticultural Hall in background. Two people can be seen standing in front of the hall. Two people walking on the sidewalk on the corner by the Academy and one man with top hat in the foreground. Fire hydrants on either side of Broad Street. Streetcar tracks run on Locust and Broad.
