Saturday afternoon
at Dinner
My Dear Sir.
It appears to be a mistake – all knowledge of your umbrella is strongly denied, and nobody has seen it – wherefore I plead with legal distinctness – first that we sent it back, secondly that it was an old one when it came, and thirdly that we never had it at all.
Our best remembrances wait on Mrs. Smithson.
Faithfully Yours
