Dear Sir
    Pray accept the best thanks of the Committee for your Address in behalf of poor Mr. Elton's children. It impressed me very favorably in the reading, as being appropriate, modest, and pathetic.
    You will have seen that having had another and earlier offer we could not avail ourselves of your kindness. But we are not the less indebted to you, believe me.
