                Monday Twenty Ninth January
                                                1844.
My Dear Mrs. Hall
                I heartily wish you success in your new Undertaking. There can be no doubt that if its high end be not too much insisted on, or held too prominently before the readers’ eyes, it will do great good. And I think, myself, that the opening is a wide one with rich promise about it.
                But I am sorry to add that journeying towards the same goal, I have different paths before me, and cannot bear you company. The occupation I have at this time on my hands, will keep me in employment until June; and after that, I have a hope of working out some cherished projects which are almost as old as myself, and which, if entered on, will be a twelvemonth’s task.
                Kate desires her best regards to you, and Mr. Hall, and Mrs. Fielding. She has been going on slowly, but always well; and I hope has now begun to stride in good seven-league earnest.
                I must come out one day, and see the little Elton’s. You promised to introduce me to Miss Rogers, so I shall ring your bell, in the hope of not disturbing you.
