My Dear Serle
I was in Managerial agonies at the Theatre, all day on Saturday; and did not receive your letter until a very short time before the Curtain rose. I am extremely sorry you were not there, as I really counted on your worship’s presence; setting a high value on your opinion.
I waited and waited on behalf of Mr. Novello, thinking it certain that out of more than five hundred people, some would send their tickets back, at the last moment. But it never came to pass. And I was powerless.
Ever Faithfully Yours
