Monday Night
Twenty Eighth February 1848.
My Dear Lewes. I am very sorry to say, that being engaged on and after tomorrow, I have a great deal that I MUST to do tonight, in endeavouring to disengage myself from the St. James's Theatre people--the dressers--and the other arrangements into which I have ventured on the faith of our punctual friends. If I can come to you, I will. If not, you will forgive me, for the sake of the botherations I have to manage.
Ever Yours
