1 Devonshire Terrace
Thirtieth April 1849.
My Dear Leech.
I was heartily pleased, just now at dinner, by the receipt of your note.  There are very few things indeed that could be more delightful to me, than such a cordial and genial outburst of praise.  You do me good, and make me hold my pen with a sturdier hand, afterwards.  I thank you with all my heart.
I suppose Lemon will not come on Wednesday.  My other half is a little nervous about it; and I imagined within myself that this was the reason why he didn't come last Wednesday:  though I don't attach the remotest importance to any such idea of bringing home infection, myself.  In any case, I shall expect you towards two o'Clock.
                                                                                       Ever Faithfully Yours
John Leech Esquire                                                                        CHARLES DICKENS
P.S. I passed Gore House to day, and saw the bills up for a Sale (in the East Wind) with a doleful eye.
