My Dear Wallack
I write to congratulate you on your Twenty Fifth birthday--which, it is quite clear to me, was on Saturday last. As to your sons, "they are altogether a mockery a delusion and a snare." They are somebody else's property. You may come to such an inheritance as a grown up son in time but I am not to be deluded into the belief that you have anything of that sort belonging to you yet awhile.
It was a most delightful performance full of the best kind of good spirit and good spirits--and we enjoyed it exceedingly.
I know it is hopeless to ask you come and dine here, on any day but Sunday. Will you join our family party next Sunday at halfpast five? Say yes, and I'll ask Stanfield and Davy Roberts (and no one else) to meet you.
Faithfully Yours always
