My Dear Sir
I am exceedingly sorry to have vacated my seat at the General Committee of the Literary Fund, but it has happened on the last few days of meeting, that some other engagement has interfered with my attendance.
I shall be very happy to be nominated as a Member of the Council. I beg you to assure the General Committee with my respectful acknowledgements that I accept their obliging offer most readily.
When Mr. Poole was placed on the Pension List, I was still his banker to the extent of some portion of the last generous grant most considerately and delicately made to him by the Literary Fund. He now begs me to remit the enclosed to you, with a request that it may be entered in the books as a Subscription "from a friend to the Institution" by my hands.
I am Dear Sir/Faithfully Yours
