Dear Stanny.
I am truly concerned to receive your mournful intelligence, for although I know that your poor son's death releases him from a hopeless state, most distressing to you to have contemplated and to him to have endured, I am sensible that it cannot but be, for the time, a shock to an affectionate heart like yours. I heartily empathize with you my dear friend in resigning him to the mercy of God and that blessed Saviour in whom we all trust humbly, according to our several ways.
Ever affectionately Yours
Charles Dickens
