Allow me, acknowledging the receipt of your very obliging letter, to assure you that I am truly sensible of the worth of the confidence and esteem which are implied in its proposal.
I regret however, that I cannot consent to be put in nomination for the honorable post to which your communication refers. I never seek any distinction; nor can I, on any private intimidation, consider the possibility of accepting this one.
