Item No: mcac141005
Title: Statuta nova (New Statutes)
Language: Anglo-Norman
Folio Number: front cover
Original Year/Month/Day: 1488
Source: Rare Book Department
Notes: Binding
Notes: This manuscript is bound in its original binding, although the spine has been replaced by a modern bookbinder. The blind stamp decorations include a pelican, which was a symbol of Christ because in the Middle Ages it was believed that pelicans fed their young with their own blood. The coat of arms of Cologne is also stamped on the cover, possibly because the bookbinder was originally from that city.
