Villa des Moulineaux, Boulogne
Sunday Twenty Fifth September 1853.
Dear Frederick.
It has come into my head several times lately, that I omitted to answer a letter of yours received some time back, in the midst of very hard work and constant occupation.
I am not unacquainted with the invention to which you referred.  But I think it is rather an ingenious toy, applicable only to very slight purposes of printing, than a means of producing books and voluminous masses of composed type.  For this reason, I thought it best to avoid going to see it; as the gentleman now interested might have been disappointed by my doing so--or sending anyone on my behalf--and doing no more.
I fully intended to have written you this, for your own satisfaction, at the time.  But I put off in the pressure I have mentioned--and then was ill--and then came here, and have been here at work ever since.
Always Affectionately
Charles Dickens
