My Dear Ellen,
In writing to Mr. Bannister, I would mention that the Funeral is to take place on Thursday, and that, to obviate the necessity that would otherwise arise of choosing among friends, only your two brothers and the two executors would follow.
By all means explain that wish to Frith and Egg, before the Funeral. And this necessitates your telling them that they are the Executors: I perceive a kind of propriety and coherency in your doing that, at once and before the Will is opened, because your knowledge of the circumstances shews in itself that your father had confided his intentions and desires to his children.
Upon all other matters, I shall be very glad to speak to you and your brothers whenever you feel equal to the task. I am strongly of opinion that you should retain the house for yourselves. I feel sure that in the long run it will save you money, and I think it will give Marcus, particularly, a kind of fixity that will have a good effect. People will come to see his pictures where they saw his poor father's, and many Art-friends will feel more earnestly about him.
Ever Affectionately and faithfully
Charles Dickens
