GAD'S HILL PLACE,
HIGHAM BY ROCHESTER, KENT
Friday Twenty Seventh January 1865
My Dear Webster
I wrote by return post to Tom Taylor (who I hope received my letter duly) that I could not preside at that dinner this year, because all the Chairs I can possibly take this Season, I am already pledged to fill. But I added that the Fund, tiding over this year, may rely upon me for next year, please God I am alive and well.
Ever Yours
Charles Dickens
