Dear Hamilton
Mrs. Lippincott spoke to Mr Dickens about the present of “What are the Wild Waves Saying,” and he said that he would accept it with very great pleasure, and again mentioned the high praise he had heard applied to the original. They are to return here in about two days for his two final readings. Mrs. Lippincott is there to apprise him of your readiness and he is to appoint an hour to receive you. Is this all right, and will the picture be ready? _ Mr D. told Mrs. L. that he had made it a rule not to accept presents, but that his interest in this matter led him to set that rule aside.
I was very sorry to hear of Mrs. Hamilton’s illness, and of the bereavement that has befallen your daughter. I hope Mrs. H. is much better. Please make our kindest re-gards to her and to [my Mary], and accept them for yourself.
Very truly yours
