Notes: Initial O with the Presentation in the Temple
Notes: This initial begins a prayer for the Purification of the Virgin. The Presentation in the Temple is an appropriate scene to decorate this prayer because, under Mosaic Law, a woman had to undergo a ritual purification after giving birth and, according to Luke 2:22-39, Mary took part in this ritual just before presenting Jesus in the Temple.
Notes: This manuscript can be dated to ca. 1490.
