Notes:

In another tale narrated by Bhishma (see the painting at left), a sage named Kalakavrikshiya informs a king named Kshemadarshin about some treachery occurring at the royal court and advises him on the importance of punishing offending ministers with firm resolve. In this painting, the faces of the standing sage and the seated ruler are executed in a far more accomplished manner than those of the surrounding figures. It is possible that Jadun, the relatively unknown artist to whom this painting is ascribed, was given the task of executing the facial features of the marginal figures, while his far more experienced father, the artist Dhanu, was responsible for the primary characters.
