Designed by Robert Smith (1722–1777). Built 1770-1773.

[ON REVERSE] CARPENTER'S HALL 1770  Located at south side of Chestnut Street between Third and Fourth Street A fine old building, its exterior, like the interior, in practically the same condition as when our First Congress assembled, September 5, 1774.  Because of its historical importance Carpenters Company in 1857 resolved to dedicate it as a patriotic shrine.
