This item appeared in the exhibition "Sacred Stories: The World's Religious Traditions" in the Rare Book Department, August 2015-January 2016.
This is the label from that exhibition:
This small book contains the Christian New Testament in Church Slavonic. Although this is a manuscript with hand-drawn illustrations, the artist attempted to mimic the look of woodcuts found in printed books.
Notes: St. Matthew writing his Gospel
Notes: This small manuscript contains the New Testament translated into Slavonic. It contains five full-page miniatures: a scene of the Crucifixion at the beginning and portraits of the four Evangelists before each of the Gospel texts. Although this is a manuscript with hand-drawn illustrations, the artist attempted to mimic the look of woodcuts found in printed books, which had just started to be produced in the second half of the fifteenth-century.
