Although Cicero was known throughout the Middle Ages, his writings became especially popular in the Renaissance with the Italian humanists who sought to revive Classical learning and literature.

The scribe of this manuscript also included on this folio a colophon enclosed within a box in which he identifies himself as "Gregorium de Martinellis de Buccassolo" and states that he happily completed his manuscript on the sixth hour of the day of March 12, 1468, in Ferrara, Italy.
