Notes: This manuscript contains a rare collection of French "Noels" or Christmas carols, many of which are unpublished. These were popular songs sung by the laity in celebration of Christmas and outside of a liturgical or ritual context. This carol takes as its theme the fall of mankind that was redeemed by Christ's birth. In the far right Eve extends an apple, tempting Adam to take it. To the left, Adam takes a bit of the fruit offered to him by the female-headed serpent.
