Initial D with St. Andrew the Apostle
This initial begins the Introit for the vigil of the feast of St. Andrew the Apostle (Nov. 30), "Dominus secus mare galilee vidit duos fratres Petrum et Andream ..." (The Lord, passing by the sea of Galilee, saw the two brothers Peter and Andrew). The saltire, or X-shaped, cross is a reference to St. Andrew's martyrdom.
