The Wyoming Branch was the last of the 25 Free Library branches funded by Andrew Carnegie, opening in 1930. In fact, it turned out to be the last library in the world constructed with funds donated by the great library philanthropist.
Because it was the last Carnegie, it included more elaborate details than previous Free Library Carnegies. The interior has marble instead of wood for the ledges under the bookshelves, and ornamental plasterwork on the ceiling that is among the finest to be found in Philadelphia's branch libraries. This 1962 image was taken just prior to a major rehabilitation of the interior.
