Inscription in pencil: "reg; $5 recd." Talcott Williams worked as an editor of the Philadelphia Press (defunct) for 30 years, until 1912. He was also a good friend of Philadelphia artist Thomas Eakins, who included a depiction of Williams in The Swimming Hole. In addition, Williams traveled to Morocco twice, in 1889 and 1897, collecting artifacts and botanical specimens for the Smithsonian Institute and the University of Pennsylvania Archeological Museum.
