Trost, \ für Aeltern Wann ihnen ein Liebes Kind gestorben ist, Ihr \ Aeltern, Nehmet es doch Nicht zu Hart zu Hertzen, Ich weiß \ wohl das es dem Hertz wehe thut, Weil sie, Sie so lieb haben, Und das sie Aeltern ihr eigen Fleisch und Bludt sind, \ Aber nehmet dieses zu eurem Trost, Und denket der \ Allmächtige große Liebe Gott und Herr im Himmel \ hat es gethan, - es sagt ein Dichter, - Was Gott thut \ das ist Wohl gethan, Und denkt Gott hat sie \ nur Heim gehohld zu sich in den Himmel, Der Dichter \ sagt, Mein allerliebster Vater, der mich zur welt gezeugt, \ und mein herzliebste Mutter, die mich selbst hat gesäugt, \ die folgen mir zum grabe, mit seufzen inniglich, doch ich \ war Gottes gabe, die er nun nimt zu sich, Du \ Lieber \ [continued on reverse]


Translation:

Comfort, for parents when a dear child has died. You parents, do not take it too much to heart. I know well that it hurts the heart, because they love them so much and they are their parents’ own flesh and blood. But take this as your comfort, and think of the almighty great love, God and Lord in heaven did it, says a poet, what God does, that is rightly done, and think God has only taken them home to himself in heaven. The poet says, my dearest father, who brought me into the world, and my dearest mother who herself nursed me, they follow me to the grave, with deep sighing, but I was God’s gift that he now takes to himself.
