Title: Better Philadelphia Exhibition, September 1947
In 1947, the Philadelphia City Planning Commission held “The Better Philadelphia Exhibition,” an exhibition for the purpose of publicizing planned developments for Center City. The model in this 1947 photograph was a focal point of the exhibition: a three-dimensional representation of Center City, complete with moveable parts, which could be flipped over to reveal the planned changes, thus enabling visitors to envision the city’s future highways and commercial complexes.
