Notes:
This is a ca. 1930 image, taken by amateur Philadelphia photographer Claude Alexander, showing a view of the Fairmount Dam area, on the Schuylkill River. According to Water Dept. records, the structures in the photograph are Lock 71 and the Lock Tender's House, located on the west bank, opposite from Boathouse Row. Due to construction of the West River Drive (today, Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive) and the Schuylkill Expressway in the 1950s, Lock 71 was filled in; the lock tender’s house was removed at a later time.
