Within 24 hours after you have placed your hold, the library staff will receive word of it on a list of items placed on hold throughout the Free Library system. Library staff will then search for your requested item, hopefully find it, and prepare it either for pickup or for shipping to another Free Library agency for pickup, depending on your pickup instructions given when you placed the hold. When the item is ready for you, will receive notification via the contact method and preference given as part of your library card registration.
The library's computer system sometimes sends the messages before the items reach the agencies at which patrons want to pick them up. The time lag arises from the fact that items travel around the city on trucks. To avoid disappointment and wasted time, please call the Library and verify that your hold item has come through.
