August is Family Fun Month and the Free Library is the perfect place to celebrate!

Our events calendar is jam-packed with ideas for spending a day together at the library. Here are just a few suggestions:

Summer Reading
Learning doesn’t stop when school is out! Visit your local library or participate online in the Free Library's Summer of Wonder, with fun activities,  programs, and great prizes! And because kids shouldn't have all the fun, adults can dive in, too! Adults can participate at select neighborhood libraries, where there will be special raffles for reading, attending library events, and more.

Nature programs
Want to explore the outdoors? Start inside, here at the Free Library! Now through Sept. 15, the Free Library, with an exciting new exhibition and accompanying programs, is your pathway to adventure and a keener understanding of the world around you!
 

Literacy backpacks
Now available at the Eastwick Library, this special pilot program offers eight different literacy-focused backpacks with educational themes, and are stuffed with books and activities for adults and children to experience together!

Free admission to the Rosenbach
For the second year in a row, the Free Library is teaming up with the Rosenbach to offer free admission for families to the museum! Once you step through the museum’s stately front doors, you’ll find a house filled with wacky and wonderful things that will delight and enchant the entire family. Pick up a copy of the Journey Around the World activity guide, which gives kids the chance to explore far off locales such as Egypt, England, and Alaska. Children will have so much fun, they won’t even realize they’re learning about art, culture, and geography!

 

Books on wheels!
Look out for the Free Library on the move! The Book Bike – sending bicycle-powered mobile libraries to outdoor events in Philadelphia – can be spotted at festivals, farmers markets, outdoor storytimes, and other community events. Keep an eye out for it!

Building tours
There’s something for everyone on our guided building tour of the Parkway Central Library! Explore the grand Beaux-Arts building for free, stopping to appreciate the building’s many collections and services, as well as its unique architecture and history.
 

Of course, the family fun doesn’t end there – we’ve always got storytimes, movie-watching parties, music, and plenty of other happenings going on, this month and every month!
