August is Family Fun Month, and we think the Free Library is the perfect place to celebrate!
Whether you're looking for outdoor in-person or virtual events or suggestions for at-home activities to do on your own schedule, the Free Library has you covered when it comes to making memories with the whole family!
Attend an In-Person Outdoor Event or Log On to a Virtual Event
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, our staff have worked hard to offer virtual events that bring your favorite Free Library programs right into your home. We recently began offering outdoor programs as well, from storytimes to crafting to yoga, perfect for all ages! You can also check out our YouTube channel for videos of past programs and watch at your own pace! And remember, we're working to increase in-person services all the time, with a goal of resuming five days of service across the city in the coming months, so stay tuned for updates.
Find a Cooking Program or Fire Up the Grill
Our Culinary Literacy Center has plenty of opportunities for families to come together around the art of cooking! Browse their events calendar to find something for your group! And we all know Philly doesn't need a holiday to have a good backyard BBQ! Check out these tips for discovering new and healthy ways to get creative on the grill.
Explore our Exhibitions
While we wait for the return of in-person exhibitions at Parkway Central Library (stay tuned!), why not browse some curated items inspired by our past exhibitions? On view from 2019-2020 (and still available for online viewing), the Our Five Senses exhibition was specially designed with a young audience in mind!
Participate in the Summer of Wonder
Another Summer of Wonder, our annual summer reading initiative, is now underway! The program's goal is to engage Philadelphians in virtual and in-person activities that encourage reading and help prevent out-of-school learning loss for students. Now through August 31, use a Summer of Wonder passport to track your reading progress, and get involved in a variety of exciting programs from artistic inspiration and STEAM building projects to writing groups and world exploration. It's a great way to read and learn together!
Are we forgetting anything? Let us know how you and your loved ones use the library together.
Happy Family Fun Month!
