Lee Morgan and the Power of Art
Nicetown-Tioga Library
The Association for the Study of African American Life and History has designated African Americans in the Arts as the theme for this year's Black History Month. African Americans have used art to escape bondage, and as the form of resistance, community memory and empowerment.
To celebrate Black History Month, we will host an afternoon of remembering. The community will be invited to share ther memories of Lee Morgan and North Philly's rich jazz history, and to celebrate Nicetown-Tioga's cultural heritage - from the Arcadia Ballroom to the Tioga Theater, and Venango Hall.
