When The Truth Comes Out
Literature Department at Parkway Central Library
It’s 1972. Afro Americans are liberated. Women are liberated. America is more integrated than ever before. People are reaping rewards from the struggles of the 1960s. Five women are going to be presented with a lifetime achievement award at a gala affair in New York City. The Honorees, Joann Robinson, Daisy Bates, Pauli Murray, Ella Baker, and Fannie Lou Hamer express their joy about being honored and what they went through to reach their newly acclaimed status. Marsha, a middle-class student attending Ivy League University, is partnered with streetwise revolutionary Kenya, a student at HBC University to cater the after-party affair. They don't anticipate the mountain of history that will be served to them as they serve the honorees.
A reading of a new play by Terry Lyons about the silent architects of the Civil Rights movement. Join us as we witness a fictional encounter between five important leaders: Jo Ann Robinson, Daisy Bates, Pauli Murray, Ella Baker, and Fannie Lou Hamer.
This event is free and open to the public and will be presented in the beautiful Montgomery Auditorium Wednesday March 6th @ 6:00pm.
