Notes: This miniature by the Flemish artist Willem Vrelant was inserted at a later date into the present manuscript. Vrelant was active in Bruges during the third quarter of the fifteenth century. This miniature contains the image known as Anna Selbdritt. "Selbdritt" is a German term that roughly translates to "three-selves." St. Anne was a popular saint in the late Middle Ages, and the image is meant to illustrate her role in Christ's holy kinship.
