Notes:
Initial Q with St. Albert Avogadro in the habit of a Carmelite
Notes:
St. Albert Avogadro (d. ca. 1215), a priest of the Canons Regular and the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, helped found the Carmelite Order in the early thirteenth century.
Notes:
This historiated initial begins a reading from Ecclesiasticus 50:6 for the feast of St. Albert: "Quasi stella matutina in medio nebulae, et quasi luna plena in diebus suis lucet." (He shone in his days as the morning star in the midst of a cloud, and as the moon at the full.)
Notes:
This initial was removed from a fifteenth-century Italian liturgical manuscript and pasted into the present book. It was attributed to the Florentine artist, Gherardo di Giovanni del Fora (1445-97), by Mirella d'Ancona.
