Item Info

Item No: mca0200470
Additional Title: Missal
Script: Transitional (praegothica)
Language: Latin
Folio Number: f. 47v-48r (flyleaf)
Source: Rare Book Department
Notes: Opening showing leaf from a missal (recto)
Notes: This opening shows the end of an eleventh-century manuscript containing sermons by the fifth-century theologian Quodvultdeus of Carthage on the left and, on the right, a flyleaf used as a protective covering. The flyleaf is a fragment from a missal with readings for the Eighth Sunday after Pentecost. The leaf was removed from its original book and reused by a later binder. The readings reflect an older liturgy that fell out of use in the later Middle Ages, rendering the missal useless and a good source for recycled parchment.
