Notes: This initial begins the first response for the first nocturn of Matins for Quinquagesima Sunday, "Locutus est Dominus ad Abraham ..." (The Lord appeared to Abraham). Here, God is represented only by his hand that extends from the heavens to bless the Old Testament patriarch.

Lewis E M 47:12-15 appear to be from the same manuscript based on similarities in layout, script, and other physical evidence. If this is the case, the manuscript was illuminated by at least two artists, one of whom was either French or working in the manner of contemporary French painting (see Lewis E M 47:12:15).
