Initial D with John the Baptist in Prayer
This cutting can be dated to ca. 1530. The paper was made in Nackel near Posen and can be identified by the watermark of a crowned escutcheon containing a doubled cross.
This initial begins the Introit for the feast of St. John the Baptist (June 24), "De ventre matris meae meae vocavit me dominus nomine meo ..." (When I was still lying in my mother's womb the Lord sent his summons to me by name). Lewis E M 1:19-22 and E M 42:4-9 are from the same manuscript.
