John Cassian (360-435) was one of the founders of Christian monasticism in the West, and the Collationes recounts conversations he had with Egyptian hermits on questions of solitude and spirituality. The beginning of the text is announced by the variously-sized capitals in red and green.

Notes: This manuscript contains an incomplete copy the XXIV Collationes, or Conferences, of John Cassian, a monk and ascetic who lived ca. 360 - 435 AD. The Collationes record the conversations of John Cassian and his companion Germanus with Egyptian hermits on the various aspects of the solitary life and hermitic spirituality. The initial S begins the fourteenth collation to Abbot Nestoritis.
