Folio Number: f. 84r

Notes: Crucifixion
Notes: This miniature begins Matins of the Hours of the Cross. The clothing of the figures has been executed in grisaille, a technique that was popularized a century earlier by the Parisian illuminator Jean Pucelle (d. 1334) and his followers. In the margins are two coats of arms. The one in the lower margin repeats the design of the one in the right margin on its left side and contains a different design on its right side. Since coats of arms with two designs, like this one, are typical of marriage alliances, this book of hours may have been produced for a married couple or a family.
