What We’re Thankful For This Year

By Kate C. RSS Wed, November 21, 2018

In this fast-paced world of ours, it’s easy to forget to take a minute or two to slow down. Hopefully, this Thanksgiving will allow us all a chance to sit back and reflect on what’s important in our lives – from the people we love to our jobs to our great city and everything in between. Today, our trusty Free Library staff members are taking a moment to share what they’re thankful for as they come to work each day:

"I’m thankful to work closely with job seekers, businesses, and organizations working towards social change. I love seeing how Philadelphians embrace new business models and pursue careers in social enterprises. There’s a real intent towards working for the greater good." – Gillian, Business Resource & Innovation Center (BRIC)

"I am thankful for books and for the children I get to share them with every day at the library! From babies to teens, I get to share my love of reading on a daily basis and add my small part in helping to foster a book-loving Philadelphia community!" – Mary, Parkway Central Library children’s department

"I’m thankful that the library puts together hygiene kits for patrons in need! Many of the items we use every day, like toothpaste, Kleenex, combs, and feminine hygiene products are in short-supply to others. It’s nice to know that the library staff takes the time to put these kits together as a way to help and encourage those in need." – Kamilah, External Affairs

"I’m thankful that I’m surrounded each day by colleagues who are good human beings, ones who never tire of wanting to make the Free Library interesting and welcoming, and who truly make it their mission to advance literacy for all Philadelphians." – Autumn, Strategic Initiatives

"I’m thankful for my extraordinarily talented colleagues who share the library’s stories and create a welcoming place for all to partake.” – Jenn, neighborhood libraries

"I’m thankful for the fabulous staff at the Free Library, who work hard every day to serve our communities!" – Andrew, Division of Cultural & Civic Engagement

"I’m thankful for my colleagues and comrades whose work upholds the Free Library’s services. I’m thankful to be surrounded and encouraged by passionate people to provide an accessible and engaging space for ALL Philadelphians." – Link, South Philadelphia Library
