Let the Free Library Help You with Your New Year’s Resolution!

By Kate C. RSS Tue, December 31, 2019

Can you believe we’re about to turn the page on this decade and welcome 2020? I sure can’t!

With every passing year – but particularly a momentous one like this – I can’t help but turn my attention to goals and expectations. But as we all know, it can be tough to keep a New Year’s Resolution. (Did you know that January 17 is officially known as Ditch Your Resolution Day!?). Luckily, here at the Free Library, we're ready to help you set and keep your resolutions!

Learn a New Skill
A Free Library card opens up a whole new world of digital learning with access to Lynda.com, an online training and learning tool for business, software, technology, and creative skills. Offering over 10,000 training and development courses taught by industry experts, Lynda offers tutorials in five languages! You will find courses and training videos on everything from web design to media production, management to entrepreneurship, Photoshop to guitar playing, and much more. Make your goal a reality with Lynda.com and the Free Library!

Get in Shape
Did you know the Free Library offers exercise classes? That’s right, from yoga to Tai Chi, there’s a class for you at a neighborhood library location! Rather work out in the comfort and privacy of your own home? Don’t fret! A library card gives you access to a plethora of exercise books and workout DVDs to borrow. Just browse our catalog!

Learn a New Language
Whether you’re aiming to learn a new language altogether or brush up on one you already know, you can add a foreign language to your repertoire with the help of the Free Library using Mango Languages! We also offer language learning classes, supporting the individual literacy and learning goals of all Philadelphians.

Play a Musical Instrument
By checking out an instrument from our Musical Instrument Collection, you have many notes at your fingertips—and not just musical notes! The Music Department within Parkway Central Library offers support from librarians, sheet music, instructional guides, and of course, free concerts that can inspire you as you make progress on your own.

Cut Clutter
Drowning in junk? Take charge and get organized with these books and resources on clutter, organization, time management, and what to do with unwanted possessions.

Hi HA-Zel, at the moment we don't have anything like that planned, but it's a great idea! We're passing along this feedback.
