Seven Free Library Locations to Serve as Cooling Centers During Heat Health Emergency
By Jenn D. Mon, June 28, 2021The City of Philadelphia has declared a Heat Health Emergency beginning at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, June 29. It will remain in effect until 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30, or longer if conditions merit an extension. Seven neighborhood library locations will serve as designated cooling centers with extended evening hours.
At these libraries, residents can get out of the heat and into an air-conditioned space with access to books, computers, wireless internet, and other library amenities. Masks are strongly encouraged.
Below are the neighborhood library locations that will serve as cooling centers, along with their extended hours:
- Blackwell West Philadelphia Regional Library | 125 South 52nd Street | 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
- Cobbs Creek Library | 5800 Cobbs Creek Parkway | 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
- Fox Chase Library | 501 Rhawn Street | 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
- Frankford Library | 4634 Frankford Avenue | 12:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
- Lillian Marrero Library | 601 West Lehigh Avenue | 12:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
- Whitman Library | 200 Snyder Avenue | 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
- Widener Library | 2808 West Lehigh Avenue | 12:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
