The Journey of Lowcountry Rice
Culinary Literacy Center at Parkway Central Library
Join the Culinary Literacy Center as we follow the journey that rice took from the African continent to the American South and its later upward trajectory to the Northeast and our very own city. With her sister Alethia, Valerie Erwin, former owner of Geechee Girl Rice Cafe in Mount Airy, will talk us through the trip as well as her own personal connections to Lowcountry cuisine while we sample a signature rice dish.
Both in-person ($20) and virtual ($10) tickets are available through Eventbrite HERE! Free tickets are available for SNAP eligible families and for anyone who cannot afford the fee right now but would still like to participate. Please email kitchen@freelibrary.org for more information. All proceeds from ticket sales go towards supporting the Culinary Literacy's Center programs for youth, neighborhood engagement, and English language learning. To learn more, please visit freelibrary.org/cook!
Note: In-person attendees must adhere to the vaccine requirement detailed on the event's registration page.
