Gibby's Joint: A Free Concert for Jazz Appreciation Month
Oak Lane Library
Local folk duo Gibby's Joint will join us for a performance for Jazz Appreciation Month. They present jazz and pop standards through a folk lens, deconstrucing jazz standards down to their essential elements while upholding the integrity of each composition.
The mid-twentieth century forged a bond between Philadelphia and Jazz music. During the 1940s - 1960s that bond developed into an influential training ground for jazz musicians. Philadelphia was a mecca for some of Jazz's earlier pioneers and remains a jazz hub for established and up-and-coming musicians today.
This program is provided by the American Federation of Musicians Local 77, and the Music Performance Fund.
