God's Revolutionary Voice: Celebrating James Baldwin's 100th Birthday
Education Philosophy and Religion Department at Parkway Central Library
Join us in the lobby of Parkway Central Library to celebrate the 100th anniversary of James Baldwin's birth! Music performances at 5:30 pm will be followed by an unveiling and discussion of the exhibit "Love and Revolution: James Baldwin Speaks to Our Time" in the 2nd floor display cases at the top of the main staircase.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of James Baldwin (August 2, 1924 - December 1, 1987). The Year of James Baldwin: God's Revolutionary Voice is a celebration of him and of his literary, philosophical, cultural, artistic, and ideological legacy and his contributions to the revolutionary remaking of world humanity. As part of the Year of James Baldwin, the Free Library is displaying selections from across our collections that highlight Baldwin’s work, influence, and legacy. Divided into two sections, "Love and Revolution" highlights Baldwin’s influence on the Civil Rights Movement during his time and his influence on contemporary revolutionary thought. Featuring materials from the subject departments, branches, Print & Picture Collection, Rare Books, and the Fleisher Collection, the display brings Baldwin's history and work into conversation with art, poetry, and music to articulate Baldwin’s ongoing impact.
