Notes: This miniature begins the Suffrage to St. Sebastian, a third-century saint who suffered martyrdom in Rome. According to his legend, after being arrested for his evangelical work, the saint was sentenced to death before a firing squad of archers. Because of his faith, St. Sebastian survived the arrows, but was later drowned by the emperor's soldiers.
